Elle Fanning, the beloved actress and L’Oréal Paris ambassador, has been a staple on the Cannes Film Festival red carpet for the past three years. Known for her breathtaking fashion choices and undeniable charm, Fanning has become a familiar face at the glamorous French Riviera event. However, this year, she has revealed that she won’t be attending the 2026 festival, much to the disappointment of her fans and fashion enthusiasts alike.
In a heartfelt Instagram post, Fanning shared the news, expressing her regret over missing the prestigious event. "Sadly, my schedule has prevented me from traveling to Cannes this year, but I’m with my L’Oréal Paris Family in spirit," she wrote. "It is always so special to share the red carpet with my fellow Ambassadors! Look forward to seeing you all work the Palais steps, because you’re worth it! @lorealparis.”
The reason for her absence? Fanning is currently engrossed in filming "The Nightingale" with her sister, Dakota Fanning. The project, which they are both starring in and producing through their company Lewellen Pictures, is being shot in Budapest, Hungary. This film marks a significant milestone for the sisters, as Elle explained in a recent interview: "We’re really excited for The Nightingale, which is going to be a big step for us. We were going to film it years ago, but then the pandemic happened."
Elle Fanning’s connection to Cannes runs deep. Just last year, she was part of a project that captured the Grand Prix Award, "Sentimental Value," directed by Joachim Trier. Reflecting on the experience, Fanning shared, "I’m so proud of this film. I love it, and I loved making it. Joachim Trier has directed so many brilliant films. I’ve wanted to work with him for a long time. So I feel very lucky I had the chance to be part of it."
Her absence this year will surely be felt, but fans can look forward to seeing the fruits of her current labor when "The Nightingale" finally hits the big screen.
