Another Victory for Mardy Fish

With an impressive performance on Sunday, Mardy Fish has once again proven his prowess on the golf course by clinching his third American Century Championship title. The former tennis star, who previously triumphed in 2020 and 2024, showcased his golfing skills at the Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, wrapping up the tournament with a solid finish.

A Winning Strategy

Fish, who once held the title of top-ranked American tennis player, didn’t just win – he dominated. On the final day, he held his lead with a strategic approach, making crucial pars on the 17th and 18th holes. His victory was sealed with 72 points, six ahead of his closest competitor, Joe Pavelski.

"I figured if I didn’t go backwards, I would maybe be OK," Fish reflected on his winning strategy. "And the conditions were pretty tough here in the last couple of holes."

Challengers on the Course

Joe Pavelski, who aimed for a back-to-back win, found himself in a tight spot after a bogey on the 17th and a risky move that led to a shot in the water on the final hole. Meanwhile, NBA's Steph Curry and LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam finished strong in third and fourth places, respectively.

Fish's journey wasn't without its tense moments. A tricky shot on the 16th landed him in a bunker, but his skillful birdie scramble ensured he stayed on top. Despite the pressure, Fish kept his cool and emerged victorious.

Celebrating the Win

The victory didn't just earn Fish another trophy for his collection. He was also presented with a unique white "lab coat," symbolizing American Century's commitment to medical research. Along with the accolades, Fish took home a tidy $150,000 from the $750,000 purse, with a portion also benefiting charitable causes.

This win ties Fish with Tony Romo and Mark Mulder for fourth place in the most ACC victories, trailing only behind legends like Rick Rhoden, Dan Quinn, and Billy Joe Tolliver.

Top Finishers

Apart from Fish and Pavelski, the top ten featured big names like Steph Curry, Annika Sorenstam, and John Smoltz, showcasing the diverse talent at this year's event.

The American Century Championship continues to be a thrilling blend of sportsmanship and celebrity appeal, with Mardy Fish standing out as its shining star once more.
