Celebrity hairstylist Chris Appleton, known for crafting the iconic looks of Kim Kardashian, has set tongues wagging with the revelation of his jaw-dropping $200,000 fee for a single haircut. Though he initially claimed his top charge was $100,000, Appleton came clean on the "Great Company with Jamie Long" podcast, admitting he downplayed the figure to avoid backlash. "It was $200,000," he confessed, adding, "But I said 100 because I was afraid of what everyone would say. I said it, and then I was scared."
“There’s plenty of times I do work for free. There’s plenty of times I don’t get paid that amount of money,” Appleton defended.
Appleton, who has styled Kardashian's hair for major events like the Met Gala, broke down the extravagant fee, explaining that the amount includes much more than just a haircut. "It was a lot of traveling, and it was a whole commitment," he said. "When you break it down, it’s not as much." He highlighted that after a 50 percent tax cut in America, plus agent and manager fees, the net earnings are significantly less than the headline number suggests.
The stylist also shared similar insights on the "U Up?" podcast earlier this year, emphasizing that his take-home pay is often a fraction of the gross fee. Despite this, Appleton remains one of the most sought-after stylists in the industry, consistently crafting unforgettable looks for the stars.
Not all of Appleton's styling moments have been celebrated. Kim Kardashian, 45, recently called out both Appleton and makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic for their work on her 2022 Met Gala look, where she wore a dress famously donned by Marilyn Monroe. "We had too much going on. You were doing every family member," Kardashian chided, noting the team wasn't focused.
In a candid vlog, Kardashian deadpanned, "Everyone f—ked up here. Let’s just say that." Despite the critique, Appleton and Dedivanovic managed to keep the mood light, playfully teasing each other about their choices. Kardashian insisted, "It was all about the hair. I’ll fight you on that until the day I die."
