Anne Hathaway is showering her co-star Tom Holland with affection, describing him as her "dream son" in their latest film, The Odyssey. The 43-year-old actress, who is expecting her third child, shared her admiration during a recent press tour, expressing hopes that her real-life children will grow up to be as "wonderful" as Holland.
In a candid interview, Hathaway, who plays Penelope, mother to Holland's character Telemachus, revealed her genuine fondness for the young actor. "Well, first of all, I have to say as a mum in real life, I very much hope all my children grow up to be as wonderful as my onscreen child," Hathaway shared during a chat with E-talk.
“I just really like Tom. He's like a dream son,” Hathaway added, causing Holland to laugh and almost spill his drink.
Directed by the legendary Christopher Nolan, The Odyssey features a star-studded cast including Holland's real-life wife Zendaya as Athena, and Matt Damon as Odysseus. Hathaway spoke highly of the collaborative spirit on set, noting that everyone was driven by a shared appreciation not to disappoint Nolan.
The actress, who has previously won an Oscar for her role in Les Misérables, emphasized the respect and camaraderie among the cast. "We all wanted to be actors worthy of a Chris Nolan movie," she remarked.
Beyond her professional achievements, Hathaway is also celebrating personal milestones. She recently announced her pregnancy via an Instagram video, showcasing her baby bump to the tune of Barbara Lewis' "Baby I'm Yours." The heartwarming announcement was met with joyous reactions from friends and fans alike.
Fellow Les Misérables star Samantha Barks congratulated Hathaway, adding heart emojis, while other celebrities like Kelly Rowland and Gigi Hadid chimed in with their excitement. Despite her public persona, Hathaway remains committed to keeping her family life private, explaining that she values the separation between her career and her role as a mother.
In a 2023 interview with Porter, she explained, "It's something I feel is not just essential for my health – I'm on a team, it's my family, and it's not just about me. My family has needs, and one of the needs of children is that they need to be able to define their own lives."
