The queen of country, Dolly Parton, is bringing her remarkable life story to the Broadway stage, and fans couldn't be more thrilled. Titled *Dolly: A True Original Musical*, this theatrical masterpiece will weave together fresh tunes and beloved classics from Dolly's extensive catalog. It's all set to premiere at New York’s iconic St James Theatre, with previews kicking off on December 7 and the grand opening aligning with Dolly's 81st birthday on January 19.
“This really is a dream come true. I can’t wait to share it with all of you,” Dolly exclaimed in a heartfelt video message to her legion of fans.
The musical promises to be a candid reflection of Dolly's life, delving beyond the glitter and glam to explore her roots, loves, losses, and triumphs. Following a successful debut in Nashville last year, the show has been revamped to offer an even more enriching experience. Dolly, who had to cancel her Las Vegas residency earlier this year due to health concerns, assures audiences that the production will be "true in every sense of the word."
Adding to the excitement, Dolly shared, “My whole life has been a musical. A grand ole opera really! We have a wonderful director, sets, costumes, choreography, music and all the things you need to make a wonderful, entertaining show!”
Renowned director Bartlett Sher is at the helm of this creative endeavor, eager to present Dolly's story in a way that resonates deeply with audiences. Reflecting on the show's Nashville premiere, Sher remarked on how audiences light up at the mere mention of Dolly's name, sharing stories of how she's touched their lives.
“But despite all of that genuine love, Dolly has never really shared her story before," Sher noted. "She’s offered glimpses and peeks, but this musical allows her to reveal the unfiltered story in her own words. As we prepare to come to Broadway, we’re thrilled to show that rhinestones were never her whole story.”
This Broadway debut isn’t just a spectacle; it’s a heartfelt invitation into the world of Dolly Parton – the music, the memories, and the magic behind the legend.
