Victoria Beckham is letting the world in on her unique approach to motherhood, especially when it comes to career choices for her kids. Chatting with The Times, the fashion icon shared insights into how she and her soccer legend husband, David Beckham, raise their four children – Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz, and Harper.
In her own words: "There’s a big difference between supporting children with what they want to do and forcing them," Victoria emphasized. "All we’ve ever done with any of the children is support them, help them and encourage them."
“I’m so proud that they’ve all found what they love, their passion and their sense of purpose,” she said.
Despite their dad being one of the most famous soccer players in history, the Beckham boys didn't end up kicking balls professionally. Victoria confessed that she and David never pushed their sons towards soccer. "The three boys used to play football and one by one they decided it wasn’t for them and that’s okay, whatever makes them happy," she shared. "I just want them to feel fulfilled."
Their paths have indeed diverged. Brooklyn has dived into the culinary world, launching his hot sauce brand, Cloud23, while Romeo has taken to the catwalk, and Cruz is rocking out with his band, Cruz Beckham and The Breakers.
Victoria expanded on her parenting philosophy on the Aspire with Emma Grede podcast, noting the differences in parenting adult children compared to younger ones. "I think that it’s very different parenting adult children to parenting smaller children," she explained. "I’m just trying to do the best that I can."
She highlighted how their celebrity status impacts her parenting style, saying, "We don’t put any pressure on our kids, we just want them to do what they love and to work hard and to be happy."
While the Beckhams maintain a "traditional family" dynamic with regular family dinners, Victoria's comments come amid ongoing family tensions. Brooklyn, the eldest, has publicly accused his parents of meddling in his marriage to Nicola Peltz Beckham. Allegations surfaced of attempted interference and "bribery," and Brooklyn has expressed his desire to stand his ground.
Victoria has mostly stayed quiet publicly about these family issues, making her recent emphasis on support and communication all the more significant. "Communication is really key," she noted. "I’ve always wanted to be the best mom that I could be."
