Selma Blair, the beloved star of 'Cruel Intentions,' recently opened up her life to fans by sharing a touching moment with her rarely-seen son, Arthur Saint Bleick. Celebrating her 54th birthday, Selma posted a series of endearing snapshots on Instagram, capturing the warmth and love of the day. One standout photo showed Selma leaning in for a sweet kiss on the cheek as Arthur, dressed in a cozy beige jumper, grinned at the birthday cake.
Arthur, now 14, looked every bit the young gentleman, his tousled brunette hair adding to his charm. Selma, meanwhile, looked fabulous in a striking burgundy suit paired with chic white heels. As friends serenaded her with 'Happy Birthday,' she couldn't help but beam with joy.
“Another year. Love in all its forms. Cake, my Arthur, lovely people. Thank you,” Selma captioned the heartfelt post, expressing her gratitude for the love surrounding her.
Selma, who shares Arthur with ex-boyfriend Jason Bleick, has navigated the complexities of being a single mom while managing her battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). In a candid reflection on the 'Today' show, she shared, "I think since I had him I'd been afflicted with MS, and I didn't know [because] I was diagnosed later. My fatigue was always the main issue, and as any parent knows, especially a single parent, there's no room for extra fatigue."
Despite the challenges, Selma feels she's in a "good spot" now, having learned to set firm boundaries with Arthur. She humorously recounted a recent mother-son debate: "He asked for a face piercing. What mother in her right mind? I let him get an ear piercing once upon a time, and he's taking care of it, and it's a lovely little diamond. The face, not gonna happen. That's what I said. I put my foot down."
Selma's journey hasn't been easy. Following an incident on a flight in 2016, she sought sobriety, which eventually led to her MS diagnosis. The chronic illness, which disrupts communication between the brain and body, has been a challenging obstacle. Yet, it has also helped Selma forge a deeper connection with Arthur.
"I find being a parent with a chronic illness does help me communicate with my son and helped me with some boundaries," she explained. "You wanna do everything, and kids need boundaries too. He's the love of my life." Her love for Arthur is palpable as she reflects on her own struggles with alcoholism and her hopes for her son.
On 'The Drew Barrymore Show,' Selma expressed her deep love for Arthur, sharing, "I didn't know I had hope until I saw my son, and I love him more than anything. And I think, 'My God, if he started drinking right now, or if he started doing the hurtful things to girls that people did to me, what would I do in loving to get him on track?' We love our kids the most, and we realize we want nothing to get in the way of that."
