The Dark Descent

Nix Adams' life took a heartbreaking turn after the unimaginable loss of her 16-month-old baby, Alaska. Finding him lifeless in his crib, she sought refuge in alcohol to numb the relentless pain. But as her grief deepened, so did her dependence, leading her to meth – a choice that spiraled into a five-year addiction marked by crime and survival on the streets.

Adams hit rock bottom in Australia, where she was arrested for robbery and spent a month in prison. It was behind bars that she finally found the resolve to get clean. Meanwhile, her children were back in New Zealand, separated from her chaotic life.

Rebuilding from Ruins

Upon her release, sobriety was just the beginning. Adams returned to New Zealand, determined to rebuild her life from the ground up. Living in a tent, she slowly pieced her life back together, sharing her journey and struggles through social media, which resonated with many.

Gradually, Adams regained custody of her children and made a name for herself on Māori TV’s Terei Tonight, even snagging Media Personality of the Year in 2022. But the biggest surprise was yet to come.

A New Chapter on Celebrity Treasure Island

Adams entered Celebrity Treasure Island out of her depth but with a spiritual ally by her side. She communicated daily with her late son, Alaska, seeking his strength and presence during the competition. "I had so many conversations with my son," she reflects, feeling his guidance every step of the way.

Her triumph on the show marked her as the first female winner in nearly two decades, earning $100,000 for the Child Abuse Prevention Foundation – a cause close to her heart.

“New Zealand losing another child to family violence, or any kind of abuse, is unacceptable,” she passionately states.

Embracing Motherhood Again

In a beautiful twist of fate, Adams welcomed another child, Egypt, with her partner Dennis Makalio jnr. This new chapter in motherhood is a healing experience, allowing her to embrace moments she missed with her other children.

"I was always scared to have another baby," she admits, "but I felt like Alaska would want it, and there would be a part of Alaska within his sister."

Adams' journey from despair to hope is captured in her upcoming book, where she shares her story with raw honesty, determined to inspire others to find their own strength and voice.
