Comedian Kevin Hart, fresh off the fiery stage of a Netflix roast, has a strong opinion on who should never endure the comedic flames he just faced. During his appearance on the June 3 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Hart didn't hold back as he spoke with Kimmel about the art of roasting.
"It's an actual talent within the idea of roast that comedians have to have to make this work," Hart explained, defending the controversial comedic tradition.
But when Oprah Winfrey's name came up, Hart made it clear – roasting Oprah would be akin to defacing a masterpiece.
Hart got animated when Kimmel suggested Oprah as a potential roast candidate. "That'd be like spray painting the Sistine Chapel," Hart exclaimed, emphasizing his point. He humorously promised to race over to Oprah's house if she ever agreed to such a spectacle, insisting, "You cannot do this. No shot."
The comedian's recent roast was not without its own controversies, with jokes that walked the line for many. The Roast of Kevin Hart featured comedians like Shane Gillis, Chelsea Handler, Pete Davidson, and Katt Williams, each taking their comedic shots.
The roast of Hart stirred plenty of conversations, with some jokes hitting sensitive topics. Tony Hinchcliffe’s controversial joke referencing George Floyd was one such moment that sparked debate. Chelsea Handler didn’t mince words about the roast’s offensive humor, labeling some comedians as "racist" and "bigots." However, Hart took a more relaxed stance, telling The Breakfast Club that while not all jokes were tasteful, audiences watching roasts understand the edgy humor.
"I wasn't shocked," Hart said. "That's what they do. Go look at The Roast of Tom Brady, like, that's what they do. It happens every year when they do a roast. It's not new."
As for Oprah, the media mogul, who has not been rumored for a roast, continues to dominate with her OWN network, book club, and Oprah Daily magazine.
