Joe Manganiello is finally opening up about a secret battle that has shadowed his life for nearly a decade. Earlier this week, the actor made headlines by announcing his upcoming memoir, "Bloodlines," where he dives deep into his personal fight with a debilitating illness. Manganiello, who has been silently battling this mystery disease, shared more about his journey in a heartfelt video on social media.
In the video, Manganiello candidly shared, "For the better part of the past decade – most people don't know this – but I suffered in silence, battling a deadly mystery illness. Other than a very small circle of family and friends, I hid it from the rest of the world." Despite consulting top doctors globally, Manganiello found no answers, leading to numerous surgeries and overwhelming chronic pain. "I spent months and months heavily medicated while dealing with excruciating bouts of chronic pain," he confessed.
"It was the most brutally difficult time of my life, one I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy, but also my greatest adventure," Manganiello shared with PEOPLE.
It took three years for Manganiello to pen "Bloodlines," which chronicles his seven-year journey through illness and the autoimmune responses that severely impacted his life. The memoir also delves into his family history and the revelations he uncovered along the way. He started writing during a high point in his life, with a thriving career and a new marriage to Sofia Vergara in 2015. However, the couple's journey ended in divorce in 2023.
Manganiello hopes his story can inspire others facing their own battles. "I hope that what I went through on this journey can give readers hope that answers and healing may lie for them on the other side of whatever they are fighting through," he expressed. His book, "Bloodlines," is set for release on October 13, promising readers a profound insight into his transformative journey.
