Hayden Panettiere, celebrated for her roles as Claire Bennet in "Heroes" and Juliette Barnes in "Nashville," has bravely shared one of the most challenging chapters of her life. The Golden Globe-nominated actress recently opened up about the life-threatening birth of her daughter, Kaya, who is now 11.
In a heartfelt conversation with Gayle King on "CBS Mornings," the 36-year-old actress recounted her traumatic childbirth experience. "I had a wonderful pregnancy. I worked throughout my whole pregnancy. I had a really rough birth to the point where I almost didn’t make it through," Panettiere revealed, adding that postpartum depression followed, casting a shadow over her joy. "I am with this beautiful, healthy baby girl and this very fortunate life. I could not be happy. I was so depressed, and I just couldn’t find my way out," she confessed.
Panettiere also touched upon her fears and expectations as a mother, shaped by her complex relationship with her own mother, Lesley Vogel. "I had all these ideas in my head of what I wanted to do as a mom, as a parent. I think I was also, though at the same time scared because of what my mom did to me, that I might do that to my child," she shared, highlighting the emotional intricacies she faced.
Known for portraying strong characters, Panettiere welcomed Kaya in December 2014, with her then-fiancé, Wladimir Klitschko. Their relationship, which began in 2009, saw its ups and downs before they parted ways in 2018. Despite personal challenges, Panettiere maintains a close bond with her daughter, who resides in Ukraine.
Panettiere expressed gratitude for her relationship with Kaya, sharing, "I’m so blessed to have a great relationship with her. I fly over there as much as I can. I’m on FaceTime with her all the time. She’s now 11 years old, and she’s calling Mommy more and more," as reported by TMZ. Her dedication to her daughter remains unwavering, despite the distance.
