In a candid video, Romy expressed her surprise, noting the prestigious nature of past speakers like the creators of Khan Academy and PayPal.
"So UC Berkeley just asked me to be a speaker at their college," Romy said in the video. "Just to give some kind of backstory, the previous speakers for UC Berkeley are the creators of Khan Academy, PayPal, medical chiefs."
Mars, who is an aspiring pop singer and actor, openly admitted she was unsure of the value she could offer as a speaker. "Honestly, I just sit on my ass and write songs and, like, post on TikTok," she confessed. "You want me to do a speech at UC Berkeley? This isn't sitting right with me."
Despite her lineage – she had a small role in "Megalopolis," directed by her grandfather, Francis Ford Coppola – Mars claims she has no "tips or tricks" to share. Her recent single "A-Lister" and her parodic take on fame highlight her ironic approach to her public persona.
This isn’t Romy’s first brush with viral fame. Back in 2023, she hit TikTok with a video explaining how she was grounded for an extravagant attempt to charter a helicopter using her dad's credit card. "Here's why," she quipped while holding a Grammy award, "Because they don't want me to be a nepotism kid."
UC Berkeley has yet to comment on their surprising invitation. Meanwhile, Romy's playful take on her privileged background continues to entertain her followers. "But TikTok is not gonna make me famous, so it doesn't really matter," she said, shrugging off her parents' social media ban.
