Whoopi Goldberg is on cloud nine as she announces the arrival of her second great-grandchild! The 70-year-old EGOT winner shared the exciting news during Monday's episode of 'The View.' Over the weekend, Whoopi's family welcomed a new addition – a baby girl named Lotus, born to her grandson Mason Dean and his girlfriend.
"I’m going to start out today because I have some fun news from over the weekend. My family welcomed Lotus Dean to the world. She’s 6lbs., 3oz.," Whoopi said, as images of the adorable newborn appeared on-screen.
The joyous news had everyone on the show beaming, with co-host Sunny Hostin noting how Mason looked absolutely smitten. Whoopi, with her trademark humor, quipped, "Yeah, that’ll change." But all jokes aside, the 'Sister Act' star was visibly thrilled about this new chapter in her life, calling it "a wonderful thing."
Mason, 27, is the son of Whoopi's only child, Alex Martin, who shares him with her first husband, Alvin Martin. Alongside Mason, Alex is also mom to two daughters, Amara and Jersey, with husband Bernard Dean. Co-host Ana Navarro joined in the celebrations, congratulating Alex on becoming a grandmother once more.
Whoopi shared her unique view on being a great-grandmother: "I don’t think about that, I simply think about myself," she admitted with a chuckle. "Cause I never thought I’d have two great-grandkids. To be there for that."
This isn't Whoopi's first rodeo as a great-grandmother. Back in 2014, her granddaughter Amara welcomed a daughter named Charli Rose, marking Whoopi's first step into this heartwarming role. And when it comes to what her great-grandkids call her, Whoopi revealed, "They call me Whoopi – cause I’m not the grandma! I’m the great grandma! So just Whoopi."
With her infectious humor and proud spirit, Whoopi Goldberg proves once again that family is at the heart of everything she does. Her fans and co-hosts alike look forward to seeing more of her adventures with her growing family!
