Wendy Gledhill, the girlfriend of beloved actor James Handy, has broken her silence following his tragic murder – a crime that has sent shockwaves through Hollywood. Handy was discovered with a fatal stab wound to his chest outside his Los Angeles home on June 3. As investigations unfold, the spotlight is on Wendy's son, Michael Gledhill, who has been charged with the actor's murder.
Wendy revealed to reporters that her 44-year-old son, Michael, diagnosed with schizophrenia in July 2025, had stopped taking his medication just a week before the incident. "I'm just trying to make it through one day at a time, a minute at a time," she told the California Post. "I loved James and my son. I still can't believe it… I can't believe my son did it."
Neighbours had reportedly noticed odd behavior from Michael leading up to the attack. Joheina Quibol, a local resident, described him as looking "really rugged" and expressed concerns over his increasing paranoia. Despite the community's unease, police assure the public that this is an isolated incident with no ongoing threat.
In a tearful statement, Wendy expressed her grief and regret to Handy's family, saying, "They know I loved him so much. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry this happened. I'm still in shock. I still can't comprehend it.” Wendy also mentioned that Handy and Michael had a generally cordial relationship, though they sometimes clashed.
James Handy, known for his roles in 'Jumanji' and 'Arachnophobia', left a lasting legacy with his final performance in 'Top Gun: Maverick'. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the LAPD's Robbery-Homicide Division.
