In a dazzling display of star power, Tom Holland and Millie Bobby Brown have emerged as the UK's most influential celebrities, according to a revealing survey from the British Council. This study highlights the cultural icons that Gen Z holds in high regard, placing these two talented actors at the forefront.
As the beloved Spider-Man, Tom Holland captured the hearts of 35% of Gen Z, securing his place as the most internationally impactful actor. Meanwhile, Millie Bobby Brown, the enigmatic star of Netflix's Stranger Things, came in a close second with 23% of the votes. Their influence outshines even the likes of Venom's Tom Hardy and the multi-talented Idris Elba.
“Young people believe film and TV have the largest cultural impact in society,” a spokesperson from the British Council shared, reflecting the survey's findings.
The survey also delved into which UK sectors Gen Z believes will have the most global cultural influence in the coming decade. With a resounding 38% backing, film and TV lead the charge, followed by music, fashion, and gaming. Despite the rise of digital content creators, traditional media stars like Holland and Brown still hold sway over the younger generation.
Interestingly, YouTube sensation KSI, known for his dynamic digital content, topped the digital creator category with a 27.6% influence rating. Yet, even with his impressive following, the sway of film and TV icons remains unmatched.
Fashion and literature also saw their icons celebrated, with Harry Styles being named as Britain's top fashion influencer, outshining renowned designers like Vivienne Westwood and Victoria Beckham. J.K. Rowling, the mastermind behind Harry Potter, continues to enchant the youth, commanding a staggering 39.7% influence in literature.
While younger stars like Holland and Brown lead the charge, seasoned actors like Idris Elba remain significant, though slightly edged out in this youthful survey. The results underscore the enduring allure of film and TV, proving that these mediums still captivate the imaginations of Gen Z.
In a world increasingly dominated by digital influence, it's clear that traditional forms of storytelling and star power remain a formidable force in shaping cultural landscapes.
