Jennifer Lawrence was noticeably absent from this year's Critics Choice Awards. The star, known for her role in "Die My Love," skipped the event entirely. No surprise, given that neither she nor the film received a single nomination this year. Without a nod from the Critics Choice, Lawrence had little reason to make the trek from her New York City home to Santa Monica, California.
But don't fret, Lawrence fans! She still has her eyes on the prize, with a Golden Globe nomination for Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama. While the Critics Choice Awards may not have been on her calendar, the Golden Globes certainly are. Next Sunday, all eyes will be on Lawrence to see if she takes home the coveted award.
Recently, Lawrence sat down with Leonardo DiCaprio for a chat on Variety’s "Actors on Actors." She revealed some behind-the-scenes insights into her role in "Die My Love," where she plays a new mother battling postpartum depression. "Martin Scorsese had read the book in his book club and he was like, 'You should make this into a movie and star in it,'" Lawrence shared. She admitted struggling at first to visualize the book as a movie but credited director Lynne Ramsey for turning poetry into a compelling film.
“Lynne changed a lot. She made the lead couple be new to town, which they’re not in the book. That adds a huge element to my character’s depression," Lawrence explained. "She’s pacing like a tiger in a cage, and that added a lot more of the isolation that I think a lot of new parents have. Like, what is my life now?”
With such deep involvement in her projects, it's no wonder Lawrence chose to focus on her upcoming Golden Globe opportunity rather than attend an event where she had no stake.
