Red carpet beauty trends might come and go, but Lord Gavin McLeod-Valentine's transformative facials are here to stay. This sought-after facial masseur has become a backstage staple, prepping stars for dazzling events like the Oscars, Met Gala, and the SAG Actor Awards. With a client list boasting names like Demi Moore, Emily Blunt, and Sharon Stone, it’s no wonder his treatments have become legendary.
I got the chance to experience one of Lord Gavin's famous The Method facials at Augustinus Bader's swanky Skin Lab. Fresh off his flight from the Grammys, he shared insights into the treatment's design. "When I came to the brand, we wanted to create a facial that connected people post-COVID," he explained. "People want to feel human touch and also expect visible results after a facial." His approach includes physical manipulation, layering of luxurious skincare products, and cutting-edge technologies like radiofrequency and cryotherapy.
“I [have] a few Oscar winners under my belt, and it always feels special to be part of that moment because I know the pressure,” he shared, recalling working with Zoe Saldaña before her historic win.
The facial itself is far from your typical spa experience. Gavin's signature massage technique involves strategic slapping and pinching to sculpt the face and enhance cheekbones. The movements, though forceful, also relieve tension – a relief I felt in my jaw almost immediately. To top it off, he uses guided meditations, having calmed stars like Sharon Stone and Maude Apatow before their red carpet moments.
As I left the Skin Lab, my complexion felt more lifted and radiant than ever before. Despite initial redness, the results spoke for themselves – it’s easy to see why celebrities are hooked on this ritual. Even for those of us heading to the office instead of the Oscars, this facial offers a touch of star-quality confidence.
