Funky Matas, a tattoo artist with a flair for the extraordinary, has embarked on a mission to spread love and unity by turning his skin into a canvas of celebrity signatures. With over 273 signatures inked on his body, Funky has broken the world record for the most signatures tattooed on a male. His journey began in his youth when his parents advised against tattoos, sparking his intrigue and leading him to prove that tattoos can be both fun and harmless.
“Since I am a tattoo artist, I decided to start this back piece idea with my close friends and have them tattoo their signature on my back,” Funky shared, "and it eventually evolved into something much bigger.”
What started as a small project with close friends quickly expanded into a global initiative involving celebrities and record-breakers alike. Funky’s back now features signatures from big names like 50 Cent, Kelly Clarkson, Bad Bunny, Samuel L. Jackson, Will Smith, Michael J. Fox, Usain Bolt, Tony Hawk, and Floyd Mayweather. Even Guinness World Record holders like Jyoti Amge and The Enigma have joined this unique project.
Funky meticulously selects participants, ensuring they are individuals who carry love in their hearts and have inspired him in some way. The process involves either direct tattooing or using a sharpie followed by inking, carried out by fellow tattoo artists like Byron Coburger and Stephen Wall.
Funky’s project is not just about breaking records; it’s about creating a positive impact. "Every single signature is particularly meaningful to me," he explained, emphasizing the importance of laughter and happiness in his tattoo choices. He hopes that his record-breaking back will continue to spread a message of love, happiness, and comedy.
The signatures are confined to his back, and Funky is proud that such a diverse group has contributed to this "good vibe project." He concludes with the belief that "Something meaningful is something that will make others happy," aiming to bring joy and laughter through his art.
