Actress Tara Reid is in the spotlight once again, but this time it's not for her roles in Hollywood. The starlet is adamant that she was drugged at a Chicago hotel bar, despite Illinois police questioning her claims based on surveillance footage. On December 3, the Rosemont Public Safety Department announced that video evidence didn't support Reid's assertion that her drink was tampered with at the DoubleTree Chicago O'Hare Airport – Rosemont on November 23.
According to People and local station WFLD, the footage showed a bartender covering Reid's drink when she left the bar, a standard practice to protect unattended beverages. "While video surveillance showed Tara Reid at the hotel bar, at no time did video show anyone tampering with or adding something to her drink," police stated. But Reid's representative, Jane Owen, fired back, emphasizing that "no one ends up in the hospital incapacitated for over 8 hours after a drink."
"Last thing I remember is having one drink and waking up in the hospital the next day without remembering anything," Reid said, expressing her distress over the incident. "That was the scariest feeling I have ever felt."
While no criminal act has been confirmed, officials are still waiting on hospital records that could offer further insights through chemical testing results. "While we do not have any evidence that a drink was tampered with, it is a good reminder to never leave a drink unattended," police advised, also urging anyone who feels unsafe or suspects being drugged to contact authorities.
Despite the police's stance, Reid remains firm in her belief that she was drugged. She describes the experience as "horrifying" and deeply impactful on her mental health. "This has been a horrifying experience for me that is severely affecting my mental health," Reid shared. "I cannot sleep over this, it's a very scary feeling not knowing what happened to me. I believe I was drugged. Something happened to me."
Following the unsettling event, Reid filed a police report and was reportedly cooperating fully with the investigation. On November 23, she was hospitalized after losing consciousness at the hotel. TMZ released footage showing hotel security assisting Reid into a wheelchair and later onto a stretcher as paramedics arrived.
Reid recounted stepping outside for a cigarette and returning to find her drink covered with a napkin she didn't use. Unaware of any danger, she removed the napkin and drank the beverage. The incident has left her with more questions than answers, but Reid is determined to find out what truly transpired that night.
