Sofía Vergara's Soccer Summer

Sofía Vergara is buzzing with excitement as the FIFA World Cup approaches, promising a season packed with soccer, family gatherings, and national pride. This summer, the United States, Mexico, and Canada will host the grand event, and Vergara is ready to cheer on her beloved Colombia. The actress even teamed up with Owen Wilson for a Telemundo commercial to drum up excitement for the tournament.

However, with all the excitement comes a surprising challenge: deciding which family members will accompany her to the matches. "It's been good and bad because, like, for example, I'm going to be able to watch some games with them together," Vergara shared with PEOPLE. "We're going to be able to do what we do when we come together, which is eat and put together the family and everything."

"It's been kind of like a little bit of a struggle to pick who deserves to go to the World Cup," says the Barranquilla-born actress, 53. "But it's all been fun!"

Difficult Decisions Ahead

The "Modern Family" star confessed that while the World Cup offers a golden opportunity for family bonding, it also means making some tough calls. With so many relatives eager for a seat at the games, narrowing down the guest list has become a daunting task. Vergara has already lined up her own schedule, planning to catch Colombia's first game in Los Angeles on June 12 and the highly anticipated World Cup Final outside New York on July 19.

Adding to the excitement, Vergara's good friend and Colombian superstar Shakira will perform at the World Cup Final Halftime Show. "I don't even want to name-drop, but she texted me yesterday," Vergara gleefully revealed. "She asked me if I was going to be in L.A. for the games." The actress eagerly anticipates Shakira's show-stopping performance, which is sure to be a highlight of the event.

Celebrating from Home

When not at the matches, Vergara plans to revel in Colombia's World Cup journey from the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loved ones. The ideal game-day atmosphere for the actress includes "good food, good music, and good things to drink" along with plenty of family time.

"When you're together, that's when you really get to enjoy each other and eat, and fight, and complain and it's fun," she mused. For Vergara, the World Cup is as much about family as it is about football, and she's determined to make the most of every moment, whether in the stands or at home.
