Living the High Life While Martin Ruffs It

Shirlie Kemp is living it up in Australia, but she's feeling a tad guilty about it. While her husband, Martin Kemp, is braving the elements in the jungle on I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!, Shirlie is soaking up the sun at the lavish JW Marriott Gold Coast Resort and Spa. Martin, the former Spandau Ballet bassist, is surviving on a diet of rice and beans, while Shirlie enjoys room service, plush beds, and a glass of fizz.

“I'm very happy that I get the chance to be in Australia because it's so amazing here. But I do feel guilty that I'm the one enjoying having all the glory, and enjoying the lovely room service, glass of wine in the evenings, and Martin's sat on a log drinking boiled water,” Shirlie confessed on ITV's Lorraine.

Counting Down to Reunite

The couple, married for 37 years, is eagerly awaiting Martin's exit from the jungle. Shirlie, who once sang backup for Wham!, is ready to trade her guilt for a mini-vacation with Martin. Their son Roman Kemp, who himself ventured into the jungle in 2019, must be proud of his dad's endurance.

Shirlie shared, "I don't know how much longer [he'll be in the jungle], but I secretly want him out to come and enjoy all of this because Australia is amazing." She hopes Martin will soon join her in the lap of luxury.

Martin's Jungle Adventure

Despite being a quiet presence in the camp, Shirlie wishes Martin would spice things up a bit. "I think Martin's been quite quiet though because I think that's who he is, he's quite quiet, and he likes to listen, so sometimes I want to say, 'Martin, come on, do more!'" she said.

Martin has yet to face a Bushtucker Trial since joining the jungle on November 16, much to Shirlie's dismay. She's rooting for him to take on more challenges, hoping it will boost his chances of making it to the finals. "He needs more trials, he's not doing enough. So I think he's very comfortable, he's not doing anything to annoy anyone, so no one's voting for him to do a horrible trial," she explained.

As she watches the show alongside fellow campmates' families, Shirlie feels a sense of camaraderie. "We watch the show with all the rest of the families, so we feel connected to everyone who's in there because you're watching everyone's family members in there," she added.
