Sharon Osbourne Takes a Stand

Sharon Osbourne is not backing down from a battle over early Black Sabbath recordings. The fiery matriarch is publicly challenging former band manager Jim Simpson, who recently claimed legal ownership of the rare tapes. Simpson's press release, issued on November 14, announced his intention to release a collection of 1969 demos, recorded before the band adopted their legendary name. But Sharon is having none of it.

A Legal Clash Over Legendary Tapes

The dispute, which caught fire this past weekend, follows the recent passing of Sharon's husband, the iconic Ozzy Osbourne. Sharon took to Instagram on November 15 to slam Simpson's plan, sharing screenshots of an email she had sent him back in July. In it, she warned against moving forward without the band's blessing.

“As you know, the Band do not want these tapes released, not least as they haven’t heard them despite you saying you would provide copies long ago,” she wrote. “You know that, as a band, Black Sabbath don’t take things lying down and you can be assured that if you go ahead with this against the Band’s wishes we will take any action where their rights are infringed, both here and in America.”

The Unseen Treasures of Black Sabbath

The tapes in question feature the original lineup: Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler, and Bill Ward, during their time under the name Earth. While these recordings are a treasure trove for collectors, Black Sabbath has always kept a tight lid on their early work. Sharon's public stance signals that the band is ready to fight any unauthorized release tooth and nail.

The Osbournes' Fiery Week

This legal spat adds to an already intense week for the Osbourne family. Sharon, along with her children Kelly and Jack, recently criticized Roger Waters on their popular podcast, The Osbournes, after he made some unsavory comments about Ozzy. Sharon didn't hold back, calling Waters "one of the most twisted, sick individuals I’ve come across in years."

For now, the future of the Earth: The Legendary Lost Tapes remains in limbo, as Sharon's strong post has put a halt to Simpson's plans. With no release date set and legal questions swirling, fans will have to wait and see how this battle of rock legends unfolds.
