Scooter Braun Breaks the Silence

Scooter Braun, the music mogul at the heart of the infamous Taylor Swift masters dispute, has finally opened up about the saga that left him baffled. In a candid chat on the 'Second Thought with Suzy Weiss' podcast, Braun admitted that despite the intense media coverage, he barely knows Swift, having met her only a handful of times.

The $330 Million Masters Deal

The feud kicked off in 2019 when Braun acquired Swift's six-album catalogue for a staggering $330 million as part of his purchase of Big Machine Label Group. Swift, determined to reclaim her work, went on to re-record four of her albums, ultimately announcing in May 2025 that she had regained full ownership of her music.

Misunderstandings and Mixed Signals

Reflecting on the situation, Braun expressed surprise at being cast as the villain. "I don't know if I've ever really said this: I don't know Taylor Swift. I think I've met her in my life three times," he revealed. Despite their limited interactions, Braun recalled a brief, respectful exchange at a party years ago, which left him wondering how things soured so drastically.

"You don't spend $300 million buying a label that she's on unless you're excited at the opportunity to work with her. I will never truly understand that situation. To this day, I wish her nothing but the best," Braun stated.

Lessons Learned and Future Focus

Braun has used the experience to grow, noting how the controversy highlighted the importance of artists owning their masters. "The majority, to this day, of masters are still owned by labels," he said. "I think what it did bring to light is that artists are going to start wanting to own their masters, and I think you're seeing artists more and more do that, and I think that's great."

As Braun reflects on this high-profile feud, Swift remains silent on his latest comments. Meanwhile, she continues to make waves in the music world, having released her twelfth studio album, 'The Life of a Showgirl', last October.
