Many stars have been paying tribute to Diane Keaton following her passing, and her beloved hometown of Santa Ana, California, is joining in to celebrate her life and legacy.
Santa Ana Mayor Valerie Amezcua has shared plans to honor Keaton's memory by proposing a street topper near Santa Ana High School, where Keaton graduated in 1963 before embarking on her illustrious career in New York.
“We want to make sure Diane's legacy is celebrated in the place where it all began,” Amezcua stated, emphasizing the city's commitment to honor one of its most cherished alumni.
The city isn't stopping at just a street topper. Council Member David Penaloza revealed that they've requested the mayor to light up Santa Ana's iconic water tower in Keaton's honor. This tower is a landmark visible to countless drivers on the 5 Freeway and will shine brightly for the remainder of the week as a tribute.
Previously, the city used purple lighting to honor legends like Prince and Kobe Bryant. While the color for Keaton's tribute is yet to be decided, the gesture promises to be equally meaningful.
Beyond the immediate tributes, there's talk of naming a day in Keaton's honor. Council Member Jessie Lopez explained that this would require a formal request from a council member, along with coordination with Keaton's family or inner circle to receive the proclamation in her name.
Keaton's passing was a shock to many. The LAFD responded to her home early Saturday morning, where she was transported to a hospital and later passed away. Her impact on the arts and her hometown remains undeniable, and Santa Ana is determined to keep her spirit alive.
