When it comes to parenting, everyone seems to have an opinion. New parents often find themselves bombarded with advice, from "sleep when the baby sleeps" to "introduce them to all the foods." But Pete Davidson, who recently became a dad, has discovered that sometimes the best advice is no advice at all.
During a candid chat on The Late Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the Saturday Night Live alum opened up about his parenting journey with his one-month-old daughter, Scottie Rose, whom he shares with girlfriend Elsie Hewitt. "All the clichés are true," Davidson exclaimed to Fallon. "It’s so much fun. It’s nuts!"
Davidson couldn’t help but gush about his little girl and the joys of fatherhood. He humorously described the messy realities of diaper duty, making Fallon and the audience laugh. "They crap so much. They crap while they’re crapping," he quipped. "Then you’ll put ointment on, and then they’ll be like, ‘psych!’ and then crap again."
When asked if he received any parenting advice, Davidson admitted it was a common occurrence. "People that you don’t even know," he said. "Like you’ll be at the store, they’ll be like, ‘Hey, you gotta kid? Hey, you gotta do this. You gotta do that.’ But everyone’s been really nice."
The standout advice, however, came from an A-list celebrity – Eddie Murphy. "The best advice I actually got, and I hate – it’s so name-droppy – but Eddie Murphy gave me great advice," Davidson shared with Fallon, doing a spot-on impression of the comedy legend. "The best advice is no advice. You can’t tell another man how to raise his child."
Fallon agreed, laughing, "He’s smart! That is correct advice, Eddie!" With ten children of his own, Murphy certainly knows a thing or two about parenting. In a past interview, the Shrek star revealed his secret: "My superpower is that I am always, always present."
Before Scottie was born, another famous friend, Machine Gun Kelly, shared his insights with Davidson. Praising the rapper's dedication to his children, Davidson said, "He flies back and forth to Cleveland twice a week just to see his daughter play volleyball. And he’s just always with his kids, and it’s just such a beautiful thing to see. It’s his favorite thing."
With a glowing face and endless love for his daughter, Davidson is clearly embracing fatherhood with open arms. His latest interview leaves no doubt that parenting is quickly becoming his favorite thing.
