Actress and filmmaker Olivia Wilde didn't hold back during her appearance on the popular "Call Her Daddy" podcast. Speaking with host Alex Cooper, Wilde revealed her "intentional" move to step back from the spotlight following a whirlwind of drama that surrounded her life. "I felt like I needed to get quiet. I needed to hear myself again; there was so much noise," she shared, reflecting on the chaos that was anything but her "vibe."
Wilde's decision to retreat came amidst intense backlash, swirling rumors, and the high-profile breakup with ex-fiancé Jason Sudeikis. This all unfolded in the lead-up to her 2022 film, "Don’t Worry Darling." In a particularly vulnerable moment, Wilde recounted reaching out to Pamela Anderson – someone who knows a thing or two about navigating controversies.
"She was aware of some of the s— that I was going through," Wilde explained, "and she wrote to me, and she said, 'The most rebellious thing you can do is stay soft. Don’t let it harden you.'"
Among the chaos, Wilde revisited a "traumatizing" episode during the promotion of "Don’t Worry Darling." While presenting at CinemaCon 2022, she was blindsided when served custody papers on stage. Despite the shock, Wilde powered through her presentation, later dissolving into tears backstage. "It was one of the most f—d up things I went through, among so many," she admitted.
Though Wilde didn't initially grasp the magnitude of the incident, she quickly learned of its viral nature. "I was like, ‘Just finish your speech!’ Got through it, went backstage, completely dissolved into a puddle. But then, I thought, ‘No one saw it because there’s no phones allowed in this event. No one saw. Oh, what’s that? It’s already up on Page Six? There’s a video? OK.’”
Even now, Wilde grapples with the incident's implications, unsure if it was premeditated. "Jason has told me that he did not know, and I need to believe that to continue [our co-parenting relationship]," she noted. Despite the uncertainty, one thing is clear – it was a "f—d up thing," and Wilde is determined to move forward, embracing Anderson's advice to stay soft amidst the chaos.
