Olivia Rodrigo is getting real about love, friendship, and everything in between. In her latest cover story for Cosmopolitan, the "drivers license" singer opened up about the "phase of love" she's currently embracing. While the buzz around her rumored breakup with Louis Partridge lingers, Rodrigo remains tight-lipped on her official relationship status – letting her art do most of the talking.
In a heart-to-heart with her best friend Madison Hu, Olivia shared some insights into her current focus. When asked by Hu about her current love phase, Rodrigo playfully confessed, "Oh my god. I’m in the most important phase, the friendship love that I’m sitting right across from. Best friend, community love. Dating is just the cherry on top."
“Relationships these days are so weird!” she said. “I don’t know if you find that. I’m definitely a lover girl. Like, I want to be in something committed and so in love. And yeah, it’s hard these days.”
As Rodrigo gears up for the release of her third album in June, she hints that her focus is on building meaningful connections. "Romantic relationships, friendships, diving as deep into those as I possibly can," she remarked, revealing a preference for authenticity and deep connections over fleeting romances.
In their conversation, Rodrigo and Hu discussed how they approach each other's dating lives. "It’s not us judging each other," Rodrigo explained. Instead, they focus on how the relationship affects their friend: "How does this person make her feel about herself? Is she happy?"
Interestingly, Rodrigo's dating history shows a pattern – three of the five guys she's dated, including Partridge, are Geminis. Despite this, she emphasizes the importance of a partner getting along with Hu: "[It] is one of my stipulations if I want to date someone: Would they be okay sitting and hanging and playing cards with me and Madison?"
Olivia Rodrigo's new album, "You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love," set to drop on June 12, is sure to give fans more insight into her thoughts on love and life. As she navigates her way through the complexities of relationships, one thing is clear – friendship remains at the heart of her journey.
