Celebrity Gogglebox has worked its magic, rekindling quality bonding time for Olivia Attwood and her mum. The dynamic duo found themselves enjoying sleepovers as they settled in to react to the latest TV shows and movies for the celebrity-studded edition of the Channel 4 reality hit.
Appearing on ITV's This Morning, Olivia, 35, and her mum Jennifer shared with hosts Ben Shephard and Cat Deeley how this experience has brought them closer. "We've had two sleepovers," Olivia revealed, highlighting the rarity of such moments in adult life. "You don't really sit down with your parents and watch television. Instead, if we see each other, it's usually for dinner or family events. It was fun."
“In adult life, and if you don't live at home, how often do you sit down with your parents and watch television? You don't, really, because if we see each other, we go for dinner, or we're doing family-related things. It was fun.”
Olivia explained that turning down Celebrity Gogglebox was never an option, given that it's her mum Jennifer's favorite show. Jennifer even admitted to asking Olivia about participating a year ago, expressing her love for both the celebrity and civilian versions.
When the opportunity arose, Olivia knew she couldn't refuse, despite her hectic schedule. "I don't know where I'm going to fit this in my diary," she admitted, "but I can't actually possibly say no, because my mum will kill me."
While Jennifer doesn't always watch Olivia's other shows like ITV2's Getting Filthy Rich and The Price of Perfection in full – due to their challenging content – she remains a supportive figure. Getting Filthy Rich dives into the world of selling sex online, and The Price of Perfection explores cosmetic surgery and beauty enhancements, topics that Jennifer finds difficult.
"She finds Getting Filthy Rich a tough watch," Olivia commented, and Jennifer concurred, "Yes, it's very tough. And I'm not good at watching surgery, so the other one is not great for me either. But I tend to skip through a little bit, just watch snippets."
Despite these challenges, Jennifer admires Olivia's TV presence, noting her ability to make people feel at ease and open up more than they might intend. "She has a lovely way about her," Jennifer praised, underscoring her daughter's non-judgmental and live-and-let-live approach.
