James Harden, the renowned basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers, has landed in some legal trouble. The 36-year-old was arrested early Saturday morning, June 13, in Houston, Texas, on charges of unlawful carrying of a weapon.
According to Harris County court records, the drama unfolded at 3:41 a.m. when authorities spotted a handgun sitting on the seat of a car owned by Harden. The gun was not tucked away safely in a holster but was instead in plain view, leading to his arrest.
Harden was taken into custody and booked at 4:57 a.m., but he didn't stay behind bars for long. He was released shortly after posting a $100 bond. His court date is set for June 22, where he will face the charges formally.
A representative from the Houston Police Department revealed to TMZ that the basketball star was initially pulled over for a traffic violation.
“The Cleveland Cavaliers are aware of the arrest of James Harden this morning and are in the process of gathering additional information. We are in contact with James and his representation and will continue to monitor developments as they become available. At this time, we will have no further comment.”
The Cavaliers quickly addressed the incident with a statement, confirming their awareness of Harden's arrest and their ongoing efforts to gather more details. They emphasized their communication with Harden and his team while promising to keep an eye on the situation.
As for Harden himself, he has yet to make any public comments regarding the incident. Meanwhile, the conditions of his bond prohibit him from possessing firearms or engaging with any substances unless prescribed. Additionally, he must undergo random urinalysis testing.
