Minka Kelly is lighting up the screen with her first-ever romantic comedy, "Champagne Problems." The film, now streaming on Netflix, follows Sydney, a sales executive sent to France to seal a deal on a Champagne vineyard. But things take a bubbly turn when she crosses paths with the vineyard owner's charming son, Henri. "I mean, I got to live in France for two months and make a rom-com," Kelly marvels, describing the experience as a dream come true. "It was really fun."
“It was just such a gift and a dream come true,” Kelly says. “It was really fun.”
Known for her role in "Friday Night Lights," Kelly stepped away from the intense drama of "Ransom Canyon" to embrace the light-hearted fun of "Champagne Problems." After wrapping up the first season of "Ransom Canyon," Kelly, 45, chopped off her hair and flew to France, ready to dive into a world of laughter and romance. "It was just so refreshing and so fun to be on set where you’re encouraged to be silly and goofy," she shares, contrasting her usual dramatic roles.
After promoting "Champagne Problems," Kelly will head back to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for Season Two of "Ransom Canyon." This season promises to be a bit lighter, adding a touch of levity to the intense drama. "We know now what we’re making and we know that it works," Kelly says excitedly. The new season also brings Patricia Clarkson into the fold, playing Kelly's mother, adding another layer of depth to the series.
Living in Albuquerque again has been an emotional journey for Kelly, who reflects on her childhood in her memoir "Tell Me Everything." "Living in Albuquerque [now] I’m able to experience it differently than when I was younger," she reveals, finding new appreciation for the beauty of New Mexico. Kelly treasures the stunning sunrises and sunsets, feeling they are a nod from the universe, reminding her of the beauty in coming full circle.
