Millie Bobby Brown Defends Her Independence

Millie Bobby Brown is standing strong against critics who took aim at her husband, Jake Bongiovi, over a recent paparazzi photo. The image, which circulated online, showed Brown managing both luggage and a baby stroller, while Bongiovi was notably absent from the action. This sparked a wave of criticism, but Brown is having none of it.

Appearing on the "Not Gonna Lie" podcast with host Kylie Kelce, the "Stranger Things" star addressed the backlash head-on. "Hi, I’m Millie Bobby Brown, and I’m not gonna lie, when did women become incapable of holding their own bags, car seats and stuff?" she questioned. The 22-year-old actress made it clear that she’s more than capable of handling things by herself.

"We’re all about empowering girls and, 'You got it' and 'You don’t need a man.' But then when I’m like, 'OK, I can carry my own things,' people are like, 'Where’s your husband?'"

Taking On Gender Expectations

Brown didn’t stop there. She called out the contradictory nature of societal expectations, highlighting how quickly people criticize when a woman takes charge. "People are like, 'Your husband doesn’t hold a single thing.' Because I’m three miles ahead. I have been planning this all night," she said, defending Bongiovi’s absence in the moment.

The "Enola Holmes" actress also praised her husband as the "most polite, sweet, will-do-anything-for-me" partner, emphasizing that he understands her capability and strength. "He also knows I’m capable" and "not broken," she added, shutting down any notions of traditional gender roles.

Embracing Motherhood and Shutting Down Critics

Brown, who became a mother at 21, also had words for those who criticized her early journey into parenthood. She described the experience of becoming a mom as transformative, saying, "For everybody who was like, 'Oh my God, a 21-year-old mom. Oh my gosh, how could she?' I’m having the most amazing time."

The couple, who announced the adoption of their daughter in August, expressed their joy in a heartfelt Instagram post, "And then there were 3." They shared their excitement about starting this new chapter in their lives, seeking peace and privacy as they embrace parenthood together.

Brown and Bongiovi, who began dating in 2021, tied the knot in 2024 with a ceremony officiated by her "Stranger Things" co-star, Matthew Modine. Despite the online noise, Brown remains unfazed, continuing to advocate for independence and empowerment in her personal life.
