Spice Girls fans, brace yourselves. The 30-year "Wannabe" reunion tour is officially off the table, and if you were holding out hope for a documentary, you might want to sit down for this. The legendary girl group, whose iconic hits and bold personas defined the '90s, seems to be in a bit of a stalemate.
The Mel's of the group, Melanie Chisholm and Mel B, have been quite vocal about the current state of affairs. Back in March, Melanie C crushed reunion dreams by confirming there were no plans in the works. Now, Mel B has echoed this sentiment, telling HELLO! Magazine, "I can tell you it’s not happening. If it does, it’ll be a shock to me."
"You can’t be nagging everyone to go on tour if they don’t want to. I laid that to rest when I turned 50," Mel B candidly shared. Even when pressed if she'd join a reunion if others were in, she hesitated: "I honestly don’t know."
Despite the roadblocks, Mel B insists the bond remains strong. "I’ve got a lot of respect and love for those girls… I wouldn’t be sitting here if it wasn’t for me being part of the Spice Girls," she said. "I can’t even begin to tell you what our bond is… we’re like family; our umbilical cords are all tied together."
However, the idea of a documentary, possibly in a Netflix-style format, has been tossed around. Mel B added an intriguing twist, "It has to be done in the right way, and it has to be honest – and not everybody wants to be honest."
Getting the fab five – Mel B, Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm, and Victoria Beckham – to agree on anything is no easy feat. The 2019 tour (sans Victoria) was still a sell-out, proving that fan interest isn't the issue – it's the alignment.
Victoria Beckham has made it clear she's moved on. In an interview with Radio Andy Sirius XM, she expressed doubt about a reunion, "I don’t know if I could," she admitted. "I mean, I was never that great." While a Vegas show might be tempting, she ruled out a world tour, citing her current commitments.
So, while the 30th-anniversary milestone looms large, the reality is a bit more complicated. Fans might need to keep dreaming or accept that a reunion may remain a fantasy for now.
