Honoring a Timeless Icon: Diane Keaton

Almost two months after the world lost the legendary Diane Keaton, the Hollywood Reporter’s Annual Women in Entertainment Gala paid tribute to her remarkable life and career. With tears and laughter, her former co-stars, including Sarah Paulson and Goldie Hawn, shared their cherished memories of the beloved actress, who passed away from pneumonia in October at the age of 79. It was a night filled with love and admiration, as the industry continues to mourn the loss of a true icon.

Mandy Moore Reflects on a Unique Bond

Among those sharing their heartfelt tributes was Mandy Moore, who had the privilege of playing Keaton’s daughter in the 2007 film "Because I Said So." Moore fondly remembers Keaton’s maternal warmth and unique style. "She was so maternal, which I was so struck by," Moore shared. "I mean, obviously, she was a mom, but I just felt this immediate warmth."

“She seemed to be this unicorn in the business and to really do things on her own terms, which I loved.”

Moore was always captivated by Keaton's unparalleled sense of style. Whether it was her iconic hats, gloves, or boots, Keaton’s fashion choices were a daily delight on set. "She was so intrinsically cool," Moore recalls. "It wasn’t just her style, it was her aura. It was her."

Lessons in Life and Parenting

Reflecting on her own journey as a mother, Moore draws inspiration from her time with Keaton. While Keaton’s character in "Because I Said So" was an overbearing mother, Moore approaches parenting with a different mindset. "I know it all came from a loving place, and I very much appreciate that," Moore says, acknowledging the balance she seeks in her own parenting style.

Moore’s experiences with her sons’ health challenges have shaped her as a parent. After dealing with RSV, she took proactive steps to protect her newborn daughter, Lou, with preventive measures like Beyfortus. "Every day is gonna bring some new challenge," she admits, emphasizing the importance of being prepared and staying informed.

In the chaos of parenthood, Moore finds comfort in knowing she's not alone. "It’s so hard and so chaotic, and all parents are just muscling our way through as best we can," she says, reminding herself and others that they’re in this together.
