Kris Jenner recently spilled some fascinating details about her daughter Kylie Jenner's early business endeavors. On the "Smartless" podcast with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, the momager extraordinaire shared how Kylie, at just 17, invested "every dime" of her "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" earnings into launching her now-iconic Kylie Cosmetics brand.
Reflecting on that pivotal moment, Kris recalled Kylie approaching her with a clear vision for her future in beauty. "She goes, 'Mom, I know what I want to do for the rest of my life, and it’s beauty. And I want to, you know, do this lip kit, and now you’ve got to take this and run with it and figure out how to make it,'" Kris shared.
"I'll never forget the morning she launched her brand, which was the first time she disrupted an entire beauty business," Kris told the hosts.
Kris further described the initial planning phase, where she suggested traditional advertising routes like magazine ads and billboards. But Kylie, with youthful confidence, assured her mom she had it all under control. "Are we okay, mom? Like, I know what I’m doing. Just relax," Kylie told her.
Despite Kris's understandable nervousness about her daughter's ambitious gamble, Kylie’s instincts proved spot-on. The launch of her Kylie Cosmetics Lip Kits in 2015 was nothing short of explosive, selling out within mere seconds and marking the start of Kylie’s journey to billionaire status by 2019.
Fast forward to today, Kylie Cosmetics has become a beauty powerhouse. Last October, Kylie celebrated the brand's 10-year anniversary with a special edition of her King Kylie Lip Kits, paying homage to her early days.
Kris proudly reminisced about that groundbreaking launch day: "She was the first one to do that," she said. "We thought the site crashed because it sold out so quickly. And then we knew, you know. Then it was on."
Kylie’s success story is a testament to her entrepreneurial spirit and vision, proving age is just a number when it comes to making waves in the business world.
