Kandi Burruss has finally opened up about her emotional split from husband Todd Tucker. The R&B icon and former "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star has announced that the couple is heading for a divorce after 11 years of marriage. Burruss shared the news during an Amazon Live session on Monday, November 21, revealing that the decision had been a long time coming.
The couple, who met during the production of "Real Housewives of Atlanta" back in 2011, tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in April 2014. Despite the smiles and happy moments shared online, Burruss confessed that things have been tough behind closed doors. "This is something that has been brewing for a while," she shared during the livestream. "All the times you've seen me smiling online meant nothing. I've been going through it. Life has been life-ing me."
Burruss, 49, confirmed the split in a heartfelt statement to People magazine. The Xscape singer emphasized that her main focus now is on her peace and her role as a mother. "After deep thought and a lot of prayer, I've made the decision to move forward with a divorce," she stated. "This is a difficult and emotional time, but my focus remains on protecting my peace, being the best mother I can be and co-parenting with love and respect."
Though representatives for Todd Tucker were unavailable for comment, Burruss's transparency shines through as she navigates this new chapter. She expressed gratitude for the support she and Tucker received over the years and requested privacy as they transition into co-parenting their two children, Ace, 9, and Blaze, 6.
"I'm stepping into a new chapter pouring into my work, my family, and my own growth," Burruss told People. "I'm grateful to everyone who supported us throughout the years, and I ask for privacy, grace, and understanding as we navigate this transition with our family."
As Kandi Burruss steps away from "Real Housewives of Atlanta," she is embracing a fresh start. Known for her candid and strong-willed personality, Burruss is focusing on her personal and professional growth. The singer-songwriter's journey with Tucker began with their engagement on New Year's Day 2013, after she humorously declared herself a member of the "Forever Single Club."
Now, as she moves forward, Burruss is determined to focus on her work and family, ensuring her children are supported and loved. The journey ahead may be challenging, but Burruss is no stranger to overcoming obstacles with grace and determination.
