Jodie Sweetin, the beloved middle child Stephanie Tanner from "Full House," has dropped a bombshell that highlights the harsh financial realities for TV actors in the streaming age. On April 21, during an episode of "The McBride Rewind" podcast, Sweetin revealed she received a residual check for a mere one cent. This shocking revelation is a far cry from the hefty paychecks one might expect from starring in a hit series.
“There's no syndication anymore because it's all in streaming," Sweetin explained. "Who gets paid for that? Nobody gets paid for that.”
Sweetin's comments underscore a significant shift in how actors are compensated as traditional syndication gives way to streaming platforms. While residuals once provided a reliable income stream, actors now face uncertainty about when, or if, they'll receive payments.
Despite her fame, Sweetin insists she's living a surprisingly ordinary life. The 44-year-old actress, who also reprised her role in "Fuller House," paints a picture far removed from Hollywood glamor. She drives a used 2023 Hyundai sedan, rents her home, and admits to having "maxed out" credit cards. "In my 20s, there would be money, but not reliable," she shared, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of her income.
Beyond the Tanner family saga, Sweetin's career includes roles in films like "Walt Before Mickey" and several Hallmark "Jane Mysteries" movies. Yet, she remains grounded and open about her financial realities, countering assumptions of a lavish lifestyle.
As for the possibility of returning to the "Full House" universe, Sweetin is keeping her options open. "I will never say never to anything," she said, expressing her willingness to reunite with her castmates in the future. "If I got to come back in another 20 years and work with these people again whom I've known for my entire life, yeah sure, I would totally do that.”
Sweetin humorously speculated about a potential future installment, joking, "We always joke it'll be 'Fullest House' and we'll just be ancient." Her openness to revisiting the iconic series reflects not only nostalgia but also the enduring bond she shares with her former co-stars.
