BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. – Hold onto your hats, folks! Jimmy Kimmel, the late-night king known for his sharp wit and fearless commentary, has just added another accolade to his name. On March 13, the International Cinematographers Guild (ICG) Publicists Awards crowned Kimmel with the President’s Award, a nod to his resilience and unwavering principles even when the going gets tough.
The award was presented by none other than ICG's national president, John Lindley, just months after Kimmel's show faced a brief suspension. Reflecting on the moment, Kimmel quipped, “When they told me I'd be getting the President's Award, I said, ‘Wow, that's great! I thought he hated me!’” He added with his signature humor, “Then I found out the president was John, so thank you, John. I like you more than him.”
Never one to miss a comedic beat, Kimmel took the opportunity to poke fun at Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet's controversial comments about ballet and opera. He joked, “Publicists have a very difficult job, especially when their clients have strong opinions about opera and ballet.”
“I love them. Remember when they used to say there's no such thing as bad publicity? That was a lot of Kanyes and Diddys ago.”
With a video introduction from Ben Affleck and a cheeky message from his "rival" Matt Damon, Kimmel kept the laughs coming. Damon, in his usual playful manner, said, “ICG? More like ‘I see you, Jimmy.’ The only thing you ever do publicly is suck.”
The day wasn't just about Kimmel. Kate Hudson, gearing up for the Oscars, received the motion picture showperson of the year award. In her speech, she took a trip down memory lane, thanking her publicist Brad Cafarelli for sticking by her through her "wild years."
Hudson humorously apologized on behalf of her fellow artists, saying, “I have a feeling that the people in this room are much more used to putting out fires than starting them.” Her lightheartedness charmed the crowd, setting the perfect tone for the celebration.
