A Hypnotic Solution to a Decades-Long Struggle

Jerry O'Connell, the charming actor known for his role in "Stand by Me," finally put an end to his long battle with nicotine. For years, Jerry grappled with a smoking habit that seemed unshakeable. But in 2012, he decided to try a different approach – hypnosis. In a recent candid chat with Sophia Bush on the "Work in Progress" podcast, Jerry shared how he hasn’t touched a cigarette in 14 years, all thanks to an $800 hypnosis session. "I struggled with nicotine for decades," Jerry admitted. "I had to get hypnotised. I haven't had a Ciggy in like 14 years."

"My wife said, 'I'm not touching you anymore until you quit smoking.' And I thought it was a joke. And then after like two weeks, there was no physical contact," Jerry confessed.

The Power of Love and Hypnosis

It wasn't just the hypnosis that motivated Jerry to quit; his wife, actress Rebecca Romijn, played a pivotal role. Married since July 2007, Rebecca issued a firm ultimatum: no physical contact until Jerry gave up smoking. "I thought it was a joke," Jerry shared, "but after a few weeks, I realized it was serious." With no other options, he sought the advice of a friend who had successfully quit smoking. This friend directed him to a hypnotist who required him to bring a photo of his family for the session.

A Pricey Gamble That Paid Off

Jerry approached the hypnosis session with skepticism. The hypnotist's method involved relaxing music and a countdown that lulled him into a deep sleep. When he awoke, $800 lighter, Jerry was convinced he'd been duped. "I woke up, and I was like, 'That was baloney. What a joke. I can't believe I just gave some old lady $800. What a waste of money,'" he recalled. But as he sat in his car, a cigarette in hand, Jerry found himself unable to light it. The hypnosis had worked. "I swear to you. I've never been hypnotised for anything else," he concluded, relieved and grateful for his smoke-free life.

Family First

Today, Jerry, who shares 17-year-old twin daughters Charlie and Dolly with Rebecca, enjoys a healthier lifestyle. His story is a testament to the power of love, determination, and perhaps a little bit of hypnosis, in overcoming even the toughest of habits.
