J.Lo Returns to Her Rom-Com Roots

Jennifer Lopez is making waves once again as she gears up to revive her beloved rom-com career. More than 20 years after she charmed audiences in Maid in Manhattan, she's diving headfirst into the genre with her upcoming film, Office Romance. On April 10, Lopez shared her excitement on Instagram, posting some never-before-seen behind-the-scenes snaps from Maid in Manhattan, courtesy of photographer Barry Wetcher. The photos, featuring co-stars like Stanley Tucci, Bob Hoskins, and Natasha Richardson, sparked nostalgia among fans.

“And now with Office Romance, I am back in my RomCom era. It's OUR Happy Era!!!” Lopez enthused on her Instagram post, capturing the hearts of her followers.

Office Romance: A Fresh Take on Love

Directed by Ol Parker, Office Romance is set to debut on Netflix this summer, promising a fresh twist on the classic J.Lo rom-com. Lopez stars alongside Brett Goldstein with a stellar supporting cast including Betty Gilpin, Tony Hale, Amy Sedaris, and Edward James Olmos. With a script penned by Joe Kelly and Goldstein, and Lopez herself in the producer's chair, expectations are sky-high.

In a chat with Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live last October, Lopez hinted at a new flavor for this rom-com, “It's not the typical JLo rom-com that you are used to, like the sweet wholesomeness,” she teased. “It's a little raunchy. It's like the jokes are little — think more like Knocked Up… [There's] Something About Mary,” referencing the edgy humor of these R-rated comedies.

A Look Back at a Glittering Rom-Com Career

Lopez's rom-com journey began with hits like The Wedding Planner and Monster-in-Law, solidifying her status as a leading lady in the genre. More recently, she delighted fans with Shotgun Wedding and Marry Me in 2022. Her Instagram tribute to her Maid in Manhattan character, Marisa Ventura, reflects on a role that remains close to her heart. "Twenty-something years later and I still think about Marisa Ventura," she wrote, reminiscing about the single mom character whose journey resonated with many.

This summer, as Office Romance hits Netflix, Lopez is set to remind us why we fell in love with her rom-com magic in the first place. With her busy schedule, including her recent work on Kiss of the Spider-Woman and The Last Mrs. Parrish, J.Lo continues to prove she's a force to be reckoned with in Hollywood.
