Lights, camera, action – and a little bit of basketball! On the set of the upcoming film, *A House of Dynamite*, Idris Elba found himself getting a crash course in basketball from none other than WNBA star Angel Reese. During an exclusive chat with PEOPLE at the New York Film Festival premiere on September 28, Reese opened up about her unique on-set experience with Elba. "He just said, 'Stay confident. Be yourself. Have fun,'" Reese shared about the advice Elba gave her. But it wasn't just a one-way street – the 23-year-old athlete was also teaching Elba a few tricks of her own on the court.
“We were shooting baskets … and I was teaching him a few things too, so it was really fun,” Reese revealed.
For Reese, stepping into the world of film was a big leap, especially with her debut being directed by the acclaimed Kathryn Bigelow. While Reese is just beginning her Hollywood journey, Idris Elba is already well-versed in playing powerful political roles, having portrayed the U.K. prime minister in *Heads of State*. This time, he takes on the challenge of playing an American president. "Playing the president was a challenge, but I'm hoping that ... I wanted to bring a human side to this character, and I hope the audience enjoy that," Elba mentioned.
*A House of Dynamite*, written by former NBC News president Noah Oppeneim, isn't just any political thriller – it's a film that promises to highlight the fragility of our world and who we are as people. Elba couldn't contain his excitement about working with Bigelow, stating, "Bucket list. Working with Kathryn was something that I always wanted to do. I'm a big admirer of her films. But the truth is, we got to make a really important film." The star-studded cast also includes Rebecca Ferguson, Gabriel Basso, and many more.
Catch *A House of Dynamite* in theaters starting October 10, and if you're more of a homebody, it will be available on Netflix from October 24. Don't miss this explosive political thriller that pairs the charisma of Idris Elba with the dynamic energy of Angel Reese – both on and off the court!
