Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds are teaming up once again, this time for a splashy new venture on Disney+. The dynamic duo will headline a documentary series that tracks the exhilarating journey of the Australian SailGP team, the BONDS Flying Roos, as they navigate a high-speed, global sailing competition. Known for their wit and charisma, Jackman and Reynolds purchased the team last year, joining forces with chief executive and Olympic gold medallist Tom Slingsby to make waves in the sailing world.
This upcoming docuseries promises to take viewers on a thrilling ride, offering an exclusive look behind the curtain of this electrifying sport. With catamarans zipping at speeds of up to 100km/h on courses that hug coastlines worldwide, the series is set to showcase the adrenaline-pumping action like never before. Jackman and Reynolds, in a joint statement, teased: “This is our first collaboration since Deadpool & Wolverine and we once again anticipate action, comedy, heart but with a lot more water. And (fingers crossed) pirates. We hope there’s pirates in SailGP.”

Eric Schrier, president of direct-to-consumer international originals, strategic programming, and emerging media, expressed his enthusiasm, stating: "Following Ryan, Hugh and the SailGP’s BONDS Flying Roos Australian team’s journey gives us a remarkable inside view of this thrilling sport and what it takes to compete at the highest level. We couldn’t be more excited to bring this story to Disney+ audiences around the world." The series, still untitled, will be produced by Maximum Effort and Eureka Productions, alongside SailGP and the BONDS Flying Roos.
Adding another layer of star power, Rob McElhenney, co-owner of Wrexham AFC and star of Welcome to Wrexham, will also serve as an executive producer. The series will stream on Disney+ internationally and on both Disney+ and Hulu in the US, promising to captivate audiences across the globe with its unique blend of sports, celebrity, and high-seas adventure.
In other news, Hugh Jackman recently made headlines with a tongue-in-cheek plea to the Academy, urging them not to "validate" Ryan Reynolds after learning that the Deadpool star was shortlisted for the best original song Oscar. Jackman humorously remarked that a nomination would "make the next year of my life insufferable." This lighthearted banter only adds to the charm of their partnership, keeping fans eagerly awaiting their next onscreen collaboration.
