Alec and Hilaria Baldwin, the power couple with seven children, are no strangers to the limelight. Recently, Hilaria opened up about a decision that might raise some eyebrows – selling the first baby photo of their eldest daughter, Carmen Gabriela, for a whopping $95,000. But before you jump to conclusions, here's the twist: every single dollar went to a charity in Mallorca dedicated to helping children who have suffered from sexual abuse.
Hilaria shared her story on the Viall Files podcast, describing the payment as "gross" and admitting that profiting from her child's first photo made her uneasy. "It was a tough call," she reflected. "But I wanted to turn an uncomfortable situation into something positive for others."
"I don't think there's a right answer," Hilaria said. "But I found that the more I tried to hide them, the more paparazzi there were."
Back in the day, the celebrity culture and media scrutiny were relentless. Hilaria explained that the pressure from paparazzi was intense and inescapable. "The culture – even though 12 years ago is not a long time – it was very different back then," she said, highlighting the moral dilemmas faced by public figures.
To reduce the constant intrusion, she chose to sell the initial photos of her first few children. But as the business changed, she started sharing family moments directly on social media, hoping to lessen the paparazzi's grip on her private life.
"What I learned from somebody who's much more famous than me," Hilaria shared, "is the more that you put the photo up, the lower the bounty is and the less harassment you get."
The decision to monetize her children's early moments drew mixed reactions. While some praised her for using a challenging situation to help vulnerable children, others questioned the ethics of monetizing a child's early life, regardless of the intent.
For Hilaria, the choice was deeply personal. She admitted that the constant media attention took a toll on Alec, who has faced his own struggles as a public figure. "It just depends on weighing how much mental distress it was causing us," she said. "It was tremendous mental distress [on] Alec who has a lot of trauma."
Ultimately, Hilaria and Alec Baldwin's experience sheds light on the complex balance between privacy, protection, and public attention. While photo sales of newborns have long been controversial, the Baldwins' approach offers a narrative of agency and compassion.
In addition to Carmen Gabriela, the couple's children include Rafael Thomas, Leonardo Angel Charles, Romeo Alejandro David, Eduardo Pau Lucas, Maria Lucia Victoria, and Ilaria Catalina Irina. Their story continues to inspire conversations around celebrity culture and personal choices.
