Emily Ratajkowski isn't holding back when it comes to her post-divorce dating escapades. In a raw and revealing essay for The Cut, the model opened up about her whirlwind of encounters with men in New York since her 2022 split from Sebastian Bear-McClard. Emily described this phase as a hookup "mania," a journey to redefine herself through a series of eye-opening experiences.
Emily didn't mince words about her suitors, claiming that "men raised in New York are uniquely disturbed characters from man hell." Her dating roster included a DJ who casually mentioned "incest runs in" his family, a Vegan Graffiti Artist with perfect posture, and a chef with a chlamydia scare. There was also a Spanish Gen-Zer who couldn't stop sending nudes, a self-medicated billionaire's son with questionable politics, and several Italians – not to mention another DJ.
“Before my separation, I’d never had a one-night stand. I’d never slept with someone the same day I met them,” Emily confessed, shedding light on her past relationships.
Emily shared that her post-separation experiences taught her two things: men seemed oddly attracted to her being a mother to her son, Sly, and the more she pushed them away, the more they seemed to want her. Despite not being thrilled with some of her dates, like "Elder Millennial" who was obsessed with dental hygiene and psychedelics, Emily found herself repeating the mantra "doing it for the plot." Yet, the thrill was short-lived as she realized she was too focused on motherhood to enjoy her hookups.
Reflecting on her marriage's end, Emily revealed that intimacy with Bear-McClard ceased after their son's birth in March 2021. By July 2022, they had separated, and Emily filed for divorce in September. The dissolution of her marriage was both sudden and painfully gradual. "Leaving was a hard choice that came with a lot of pain and at a great cost," she admitted.
Despite the challenges, Emily discovered strength in her newfound independence. "I wasn’t left; I left. I knew then that being able to leave, to say ‘no,’ was the only real superpower I’d gained through divorce," she mused, embracing her bravery.
In the wake of their split, allegations against Bear-McClard surfaced, accusing him of infidelity and inappropriate behavior. Emily's journey post-divorce has been nothing short of transformative, as she navigates single motherhood and redefines her identity.
