Elton John had fans clutching their pearls on Friday when he took to Instagram with a series of photos that seemed to show him in a dire state. The legendary musician, aged 78, appeared bedridden, decked out in glittering body casts and looking undeniably worn out. But before you start worrying, it was all just a playful ruse!
What initially seemed alarming was actually part of a humorous stunt to drum up excitement for the sequel to 'This Is Spinal Tap'. Elton John, ever the showman, captioned the photos with a cheeky, “rocked too hard... ended up in a cast!” surrounded by "get well soon" cards, flowers, and sparkling leg casts. Shortly after, he set the record straight, revealing that he was simply goofing around backstage with the Spinal Tap crew.
“The new film, Spinal Tap II, and album are out today, featuring me on ‘Listen To The Flower People’ and ‘Stonehenge’. Thanks for having me be a part of it!”
Despite Elton's clarification, fans couldn’t help but express their initial shock in the comments. The fake hospital scene had them in a tizzy, with reactions ranging from "ELTON DONT SCARE US LIKE THAT" to “I ALMOST HAD A HEART ATTACK THINKING IT WAS REAL”. Clearly, the realistic setup had even the most loyal fans second-guessing.
In these staged photos, Elton embraced the fun, sporting bedazzled medical gear and surrounded by whimsical props and co-stars from the film. Directed by Rob Reiner, 'Spinal Tap II: The End Continues' comes 41 years after the cult classic original. It promises a star-studded lineup, featuring music legends like Sir Elton John, Sir Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, and Trisha Yearwood.
The sequel sees the aging rockers of Spinal Tap reuniting for one last hurrah after a 15-year hiatus. Director Reiner chimed in on Elton’s post, expressing his excitement: “So happy to be working with the folks at Bleecker Street who are passionate about keeping Tap's legacy alive and happy to give Marty DiBergi another shot at relevancy.”
