Vivian Wilson, the 21-year-old daughter of tech mogul Elon Musk and author Justine Wilson, took the fashion world by storm with her New York Fashion Week debut on September 12. Strutting down the runway in Alexis Bittar’s Spring-Summer 2026 show, Vivian's first-ever appearance was nothing short of spectacular. The show, creatively themed “MISS USA 1991: a Dream Sequence,” was held at the Abrons Art Center and drew attention to states where trans rights are under threat.
Vivian embodied "Miss South Carolina" in the pageant-themed presentation, wearing a dazzling red gown and a satin sash. This choice was symbolic, as the show highlighted states like South Carolina where trans rights are being challenged. "The states we are representing are states where trans rights are currently being stripped away," Vivian explained, emphasizing the importance of standing up together against such challenges.
"Fashion and art is a great way to go about that," Vivian told Nylon, stressing the power of creative expression in advocacy.
Backstage, Vivian shared her excitement and nerves with Nylon, admitting, "This is my first show... a little bit nervous," but assured everyone she was well-prepared. Her portrayal of "Miss South Carolina" was all about channeling a character she described as "the mean, bitchy one," adding a playful twist to her role.
Vivian's journey in fashion is just beginning, but she's already making a mark. Earlier this year, she also debuted as a drag performer under the name Vivllainous, showcasing her versatility and commitment to causes close to her heart.
The runway show, which also featured director-actress Tommy Dorfman, was more than a display of fashion. It was a narrative on misogyny, unchecked predators, objectification, and trans rights, inspired by films like "Blue Velvet" and "Carrie." Alexis Bittar, the designer behind the collection, expressed gratitude to Vivian for her participation, writing, "Thank you for trusting me @vivllainous and for honoring me with your first show as Miss South Carolina."
Vivian's presence at NYFW marks a significant step in her personal journey and advocacy, blending creativity with a powerful message. As she continues to explore her passions, from fashion to education, Vivian is undoubtedly a name to watch in the years to come.
