Elle Fanning's Bold Move

Elle Fanning has always been a trendsetter, but her latest move might just be her most daring yet. The 27-year-old actress opened up about why she created an OnlyFans account, not for the reasons you might expect, but as part of her method acting process. In a candid interview with People on Friday, March 13, Fanning explained her deep dive into the NSFW platform was all about preparing for her role in the upcoming AppleTV series, "Margo’s Got Money Troubles."

Getting into Character

To bring authenticity to her character, Fanning explored the digital world that many are curious about but few truly understand. "There were a lot of things I did to prepare," Fanning shared with People, "Obviously, I am an Instagram user and a TikTok user. I got to look at that." However, her exploration didn’t stop at mainstream social media. "Also, we had to dive into OnlyFans a little bit. We did create an account for the writer’s room, and for me, so I could check out how the website is."

"There was a lot of looking at OnlyFans with the writers, but we all gave consent to each other before we did it," revealed showrunner Eva Anderson. "We were very responsible and we just tried to get as much information as we could before we started."

The Role of a Lifetime

"Margo’s Got Money Troubles," based on Rufi Thorpe’s bestselling 2024 novel, follows Margo, played by Fanning, as she navigates financial hardships after leaving college to care for her newborn. The series paints a vivid picture of struggle and perseverance, with Margo relying on her mother, played by Michelle Pfeiffer, and father, portrayed by Nick Offerman, for support.

Hollywood's OnlyFans Connection

Elle Fanning isn't the first star to turn to OnlyFans for artistic inspiration. Back in August 2020, Bella Thorne famously joined the platform as part of her research for a film project with Sean Baker. "It’s a feature we are researching as I’m living it currently," Thorne told the Los Angeles Times. Her exploration aimed to uncover the impact of such platforms on users' lives, both good and bad.

With "Margo’s Got Money Troubles" premiering on AppleTV on April 15, audiences are eager to see Fanning’s portrayal of Margo, a character shaped by both personal ambition and the gritty reality of financial struggle. The series promises to be a compelling exploration of what it takes to survive and thrive in a world full of challenges.
