Dwayne Johnson: A Rock in a Political Hard Place

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is not here for political debates. In a candid chat with Esquire, published on June 11, the actor and former wrestling champ, now 54, shared why he's stepping back from politics. "What I have learned through experience is that I need to keep – need, not want – the main thing the main thing," Johnson revealed. "And the main thing for me, the thing that in the morning I swing my legs out of bed and I run towards, is creating. It’s art. It’s storytelling. I’ve learned I’m going to keep my politics to myself."

“Politics is omnipresent and it’s forever. I don’t like it. I hate it at times. I hate the slinging. I hate all the bullshit that comes with it,” Johnson confessed.

Why Dwayne Keeps His Views Under Wraps

The Smashing Machine actor prefers to dodge the political spotlight, unlike fellow stars like Bruce Springsteen, who openly criticizes President Donald Trump during concerts. When asked about this, Johnson mused, "Because when I hear you talk about Springsteen, who I love, and this idea that he’s speaking directly to Trump in his concerts, my first thought as you were telling me that, in my head, I went, Oh, then why don’t they talk? They should sit down and talk."

Reflecting on Past Endorsements

Previously, Johnson lent his support to President Joe Biden in 2020. However, he's taking a different approach for the 2024 elections, opting not to endorse any candidate. "The endorsement that I made years ago with Biden was one I thought was the best decision for me at that time," he explained on The Will Cain Show. "I realized this level of influence, I’m gonna keep my politics to myself, and I think it’s between me and the ballot box."

Despite his reservations, Johnson remains confident in the democratic process. "I do trust the American people, and I trust that whoever they vote for, that’s going to be my president, that’s who I’m going to support 100 percent," he added.
