Dwayne Johnson, the larger-than-life actor known to many as "The Rock," recently faced an unexpected health scare that had fans on edge. During an interview with Esquire, the 54-year-old star recounted the moment he discovered a lump on his left testicle while showering. Despite hoping it would disappear on its own, Johnson scheduled a medical appointment two days later.
“I didn’t even tell Lauren,” he admitted, referring to his wife. “I didn’t want to worry her before I knew if it was anything to even worry about.”
At the doctor's office, the "Moana" star was informed that the lump was likely epididymitis – an inflammation of the tube at the back of the testicle. However, the doctor also cautioned that it could be cancerous, recommending an ultrasound for further investigation. With a busy schedule promoting his new "Jumanji" movie alongside Kevin Hart and Jack Black, Johnson had to delay the test, leaving him in a state of anxious uncertainty for 24 hours.
“So I had to live with that for those twenty-four hours, not knowing—and I had to be on all day, joking around, making speeches,” he shared.
Fortunately, Johnson later confirmed that the diagnosis was indeed epididymitis, albeit a painful experience. “By the way: I’m fine,” he reassured, adding that despite the discomfort, he had to maintain his public persona.
Johnson has been candid about his health challenges before. In a 2025 chat with Dr. Mark Hyman, he discussed longstanding digestive issues exacerbated by antibiotics, which were remedied with a personalized health regimen.
Reflecting on his journey, Johnson told Esquire, “I’ve worked hard to just be at peace.” Emphasizing the evolution of self-awareness over the decades, he added, “By the time I hit my fifth level—I’m fifty-three—I was working hard just to find what peace meant.”
