Drew Barrymore Gets Real About Perimenopause

Drew Barrymore is not one to shy away from speaking her truth, especially when it comes to her personal health journey. On a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, the beloved host, at 51, opened up about her battle with perimenopause, and she didn't hold back. "I can't even start today without being honest because I can't fake anything," Barrymore confessed. "I am so bloated that I feel like some carp that got brought up to the beach, and I'm just that dead fish."

The Struggle is Real

The actress and mom of two – who shares daughters Olive, 13, and Frankie, 11, with ex-husband Will Kopelman – explained her frustration. She had been hoping to transition from perimenopause to menopause but was disappointed to find her period arriving just shy of the one-year mark. "I was about to hit my one-year mark for my period and get right into menopause, where I belong. I got it. I got it. I'm at 11 months. So I go back down to zero," she shared. "I feel unattractive, and I'm so hormonal, and nothing makes sense, and I'm irritable, and I'm bloated, and I am emotionally unstable."

"I always feel better after being here," Barrymore noted, referring to her daytime talk show.

Fans Applaud Her Honesty

Barrymore's raw and relatable confession struck a chord with many viewers. Clips of her heartfelt moment were shared on the show's official Instagram, where fans flooded the comments with praise. "Omg the 'I feel unattractive' YESSS thank you for honesty drew," one fan wrote. Another agreed, "Drew is all of us in perimenopause!" while a third expressed gratitude for her openness, "I love that she is being so honest through this journey ❤️."

God, it's so hot," she said, adding a touch of humor to the situation.
