Dolly Parton, the beloved 79-year-old country music legend, recently opened up about her health struggles that prevented her from attending a special event at Dollywood. On Monday, she was expected to be at the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Orlando. Despite the anticipation, the "Jolene" singer was notably absent.
On Wednesday, Dolly took to the Dollywood Instagram page to share a heartfelt video explaining her absence. "I’m truly sorry I can’t be there," she expressed, citing "a few health challenges" as the reason. Her doctors have advised her to "take it easy for just a little while," a suggestion she’s reluctantly following.
“I sure wanted to take the chance to say thank you for this incredible honor,” Dolly shared in her message to all those involved in the ceremony.
Dolly nostalgically recalled the opening of Dollywood in 1986, likening it to a "birthday party" filled with excitement and anticipation. She expressed her gratitude that families continue to create cherished memories at the park today. "So, from the bottom of my heart, thank you for this honor, from me and from everyone who makes Dollywood what it is," she added, acknowledging the collective efforts that have sustained the park’s success.
This isn’t the first time health concerns have kept Dolly from public appearances. She recently accepted an honorary Oscar remotely from Tennessee, choosing to skip the Academy Governors Awards in Hollywood. Although initial reports linked her absence to health issues, her publicist clarified it was due to a scheduling conflict.
Dolly also postponed her Las Vegas residency, initially slated for December 2025, to September 2026. "As many of you know, I have been dealing with some health challenges," she shared on Instagram. She assured fans that her main priority is delivering the best possible performance.
In October, Dolly's sister Freida sparked concern with a Facebook post asking for prayers, which she later clarified was for minor health issues. Dolly playfully addressed the rumors in an Instagram video, joking, "Do I look sick to you? I’m working hard here."
Dolly admitted she’s using this downtime to focus on her health, addressing issues she previously neglected. "I didn’t take care of myself, so I let a lot of things go," she confessed. Yet, she remains optimistic, stating, "God hasn’t said anything about stopping yet," signaling her intent to continue delighting fans for years to come.
